The standard thickness for a residential concrete slab is 4 inches. For special occasions slabs can be poured at 5 inches or more. (Example: heavy truck or motor home traffic.
For a four inch slab multiply length times width which equals Square Feet (sf). Next convert (sf) to cubic feet (cf) by multiplying (sf) by .33, which is the decimal equivalent of four inches. Divide the result by twenty seven (cf), which is the number of (cf) in a (cyd) and that will
yield (cyds).
Example: 10′ x 30′ = 300(sf) x.33 = 99 (cf) / 27 (cf) = 3.67 (cyds) or 4 (cyds).
Fiber reinforcing can quite successfully replace more traditional types of reinforcing. In fact fiber reinforcing offers advantages such as high impact resistance, elimination of corrosion and is evenly distributed throughout the mix.
There are many variables in determining the cost of a concrete project. Cost is usually broken down into 3 factors: Labor, Equipment and Material. Labor is a function of time spent on job. Equipment can vary based on volume, scope and access to work area while Material is directly proportional to the size of the project in square foot or cubic yards of concrete. Materials may also include gravel, form lumber and other required items.
